Boyertown Area Multi-Service Mortgage Burning

Boyertown Area Multi-Service, formerly located on the YMCA property, moved into its current facility in 2006. In order to complete the $2.8 million facility, Multi-Service borrowed $1 million from National Penn Bank.

In August 2009, only 3.5 years later, Multi-Service made the final mortgage payment and on Friday, October 23rd, 2009 Multi-Service held a special mortgage burning.

Executive Director, Dana Eichert, held up the mortgage (faux copy) and set it on fire in front of some of Multi-Service’s most ardent financial supporters. During the evening, attendees were treated to remarks from Glenn Moyer, President of National Penn Bank, Severin Fayerman, founder of Baldwin Brass Company and John Pearson, Pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Glenn Moyer said, of the building project, “It is community based, built from the bottom up. It was a huge challenge for sure, but was met because of the fabric of the people of Boyertown.”

Pastor Pearson expressed the gratitude of his church members who authorized the church to make a donation to Multi-Service’s capital campaign. He said St. John members say thanks for the many blessings they receive through Boyertown Area Multi-Service.

Severin Fayerman, who briefly shared his story as a Holocaust Survivor, said that Multi-Service is built on the notion that retirees deserve to live in dignity and relative comfort. “This facility is astounding,” he said, standing in the Sr. Center, beneath the brass chandeliers donated by his company.

Guests enjoyed an evening of fellowship, hors d' oeuvres, and beverages in the Sr. Center located within the Boyertown Area Multi-Service complex designed by architect, John Lee

Looking toward long-term financial stability, Multi-Service has developed an endowment fund. Over the next five years, the agency hopes to raise $3 million to underwrite its programs and assist in the upkeep of the facility.
