About Us
Who We Are
Boyertown Area Multi-Service is a social service agency dedicated to meeting needs and improving the lives of people in the Boyertown School District Area and surrounding communities of Amity, District, Hereford, Pike and Oley townships.
We are an independent non-profit and member organization of the Boyertown Area United Way and the United Way of Berks County. We are also funded by the Berks County Office of Aging, Montgomery County Aging and Adult Services, individual donors and general community support. |
Our History
Founded in 1973 by community volunteers and leaders, the initial goal of Boyertown Area Multi-Service Inc. was to provide social services of its own in addition to providing area residents with information and referral services to other social service agencies serving the Boyertown area.
Meals on Wheels was the first program we offered at the agency. With eight volunteers, Multi-Service began delivering hot meals to homebound elderly individuals. Today, more than 150 volunteers deliver over 13,000 meals annually and drive more than 100 square miles daily. |
In the course of serving those homebound seniors, it soon became apparent that a lack of public transportation was a serious concern. Responding to this need in the community, Multi-Service began its transportation program. Fueled by volunteers, this service was created to provide transportation to medical appointments.
A community food pantry program followed. Designed to assist those experiencing financial difficulties, the Multi-Service pantry is operational daily by appointment. Donations to the food pantry come from churches, service organizations, schools, Girl/Boy Scout troops, local food markets, the U.S. Postal Service, and individual community members. Every item donated locally is distributed to local residents. Multi-Service aims to make sure no one goes hungry.
The Senior Neighborhood Center of Boyertown Area Multi-Service began in February of 1975 and is even more vital to the community today than it was then. Renamed "The Center at Spring Street" in 2004 to reflect it's pending new location, the Center continues to meet the changing needs of our older population.
In 1999, the Energy Assistance program was added to the list of services we provide at Multi-Service. There is a part-time case manager on staff to assist area residents with energy programs, including LIHEAP and PCAP.
We launched a capital campaign in early 2005 for the express purpose of building a new facility that will better serve the ever-evolving needs of the people in our community. The building was completed in December 2005 and opened for business on January 9, 2006.
